Disc golf involves throwing a Frisbee or other disc into a metal basket with as few throws as possible into each basket.
The price tag for the project, if eventually approved, would likely include having a professional designers create the course based upon Professional Disc Golf Association standards, as well as the cost of materials such as posts, baskets, trees, plantings, signs and tee pads, according to Trustee Christine Matacic.
Matacic said she and Trustees David Kern and Tom Farrell would like to see the project move forward and directed staff members to examine if it might fit in the township’s 2015 budget.
“We’d like to see additional activities within our parks and this is a very nice family-friendly activity that would fit very well within our park system because all you need is a disc,” Matacic said.
Township officials hope the course could be there for families to enjoy sometime next year, she said.
Sponsorships, which are still being evaluated along with the park itself, could help offset costs for the initial course, as well as any possible future offerings, Matacic said.
“We don’t have dedicated tax dollars for our parks,” she said. “It all comes out of our general fund.”
