Huber Heights man indicted in deadly Trotwood shooting, multiple-county chase

A Huber Heights man is charged with murder in connection to a March deadly shooting in Trotwood.

Dustin Hatfield, 28, who was was indicted Tuesday by a Montgomery County grand jury, is accused of robbing and fatally shooting 41-year-old David Robinson early March 28 at his home on Elkins Avenue before fleeing in a car driven by another man.

Miamisburg police spotted a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis with two men inside — later identified as Hatfield and driver William Denny II, 35, of Yorkville in eastern Ohio — that matched the description of the Trotwood suspects. A Miamisburg officer activated the cruiser’s lights and sirens, but the car did not stop. A police pursuit ensured involving several jurisdictions in the chase all the way to downtown Cincinnati, the Ohio State Highway Patrol previously reported.

During the pursuit, Hatfield allegedly tossed possible evidence out the car window, including a disassembled gun police said was used in the shooting.

After troopers used tire deflation devices, Denny lost control and crashed into a median near Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Hatfield was indicted four counts of murder and two counts each of aggravated robbery, all with three-year firearm specifications. He also was indicted for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer. His arraignment is July 8, court records show.

He was indicted May 28 for three counts of tampering with evidence and one count of having weapons under disability for a prior offense of violence.

Charges against Denny were dismissed.
