A crash temporarily closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 just north of the Union Centre Boulevard interchange Monday, June 1, 2015.

A three-vehicle crash temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 just north of the Union Centre Boulevard interchange.

The crash happened around 2:35 p.m. north of the West Chester Road bridge when a 2002 Honda Civic that had pulled onto the right berm of the interstate for a jump start attempted to merge back into traffic, according to Sgt. Brian Bost of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Witnesses said it appeared the driver didn’t check her blind spot and the Civic was rear-ended by a maroon 2008 Ford Escape going approximately 60 to 65 mph.

The impact of the crash blew out the Escape’s front left tire and sent it into the center left lane, where it struck a semi tractor trailer.

An 18-year-old female passenger sitting in the right rear of the Civic sustained heavy facial bone structure injuries, according to OSHP trooper Cody Beaty. She was taken by helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The driver of the Civic and one passenger were taken to West Chester Hospital. Two others passengers, who were children, were taken to Cincinnati Children’s Liberty Campus.

The driver of the Escape was taken to Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital.

All injuries were non life-threatening, Bost said. The driver of the semi was uninjured in the crash.

The three left lanes of the road reopened by about 3:30 p.m. and the right land reopened by 3:45 p.m., Bost said.

Citations are pending and the crash remains under investigation, he said.
