Fairfield store clerk dies after being shot in robbery

A 53-year-old convenience store clerk died Friday, just days after he was shot when two men robbed the Jiffy Mart on Ohio 4.

Police say at 9:57 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, two men entered the store at 5353 Dixie Highway and left with an undetermined amount of cash.

At least one of the two men had a firearm and shot Karunakar R. Karengle, of Fairfield. He was transported to UC Health West Chester Hospital by the Fairfield Fire Department, where he died Friday morning.

The identity of the Jiffy Mart employee with withheld until today pending notification of relatives in India, according to police.

Fairfield police Lt. Ken Gerold said they believe Karengle did not have relatives that lived in the area.

A description of the men was unavailable, police said, except that they both wore hoodies covering most of their faces. One wore a dark jacket while the other wore a light colored jacket.
