The driver, an unidentified male, was ejected from a Chevrolet Express 1500 van and taken by West Chester Fire Department life squad to West Chester Hospital for treatment, Trooper Mike Williams of the Ohio State Highway Patrol told the Journal-News.
Witnesses said the vehicle’s right rear tire fell off prior to the crash, causing it to veer left off Interstate 75 north and roll across the grassy median, Williams said.
Skid marks from the interstate into the median were visible, as was a large field of debris surrounding the van.
The vehicle was outfitted with a kitchenette and firefighters had to wait for a propane tank to completely leak its contents before the vehicle could safely be removed from the scene, according to fire officials at the scene.
Motorists dealt with traffic backups for miles in both directions until 11:55 a.m., when the scene was cleared, according to dispatchers.
OSHP continues to investigate the incident, dispatchers said.
