‘You are going to make it through this’: 911 caller tells son shot in suspected robbery attempt

Oxford police are investigating the shooting of a teen Sunday afternoon, apparently at a College Corner Pike business.

A 17-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the side at about 4:10 p.m., according to Lt Lara Fening.

Emergency units were called to the 5200 block of College Corner Pike for the victim, but the shooting occurred at a car wash in the 5000 block of College Corner Pike. Fening said detectives are investigating the incident as a felonious assault.

The victim was taken by ambulance to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, then by helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Fening said he is in stable condition today.

A woman called 911 and told dispatchers her son had been shot.

“My son and his friend were just robbed and he got shot. He is shot in the side,” the caller said. “He is having trouble breathing.”

The woman rendered aid to her son telling him to stay calm and take deep breaths.

“You are going to make it through this,” the caller tells the injured teen.

When the dispatcher asks about the suspects the woman said all she knows is it was a black car with tinted windows.
