Around 6:15 p.m. Jan. 15, Hamilton police responded to the alley at 12th and Ludlow streets for the report of someone shot in the leg.
According to police, a 15-year-old boy planned to purchase $80 worth of marijuana from Singletary. He was accompanied by a 21-year-old man. Police said Singletary displayed a handgun to rob the boy. Police said Singletary then shot at them, missing the man and striking the boy in the leg. Singletary fled the scene.
On Tuesday, officers spotted Singletary entering the U.S. Market at Pershing Avenue and South Front Street. He was known to have arrest warrants for felonious assault and aggravated robbery. Officers attempted to arrest Singletary for the open warrants.
When attempting to place his hands behind his back, officers struggled with Singletary, who according to the report reached for his waistband. Officers took him to the ground, and he was warned they would use a Taser “if he did not calm down.”
Additional officers were called to assist in subduing Singletary.
Singletary appeared Wednesday morning in Hamilton Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing was set for 8 a.m. Jan. 29.
