Thieves target remote control hobby sites

HAMILTON — Thieves recently targeted two public sites used and maintained by remote control hobby clubs.

The Pepsi machine was heavily damaged at the Hamilton Area Wireless Kontrol Society, 252 Joe Nuxhall Way, and several hundred feet of chain-link fencing was taken from the nearby remote control race car club, 170 Joe Nuxhall Way.

The fencing was owned by the city and the electric service was also cut at the site, according to the incident report.

The suspect who damaged the soft drink machine got away with an estimated $10, but was unable to get any drinks or the majority of the money.

The remote locations are close to the Great Miami Scenic Bike Trail, south of the Hamilton Wastewater Treatment Plant on Neilan Boulevard. The HAWKS site was busy with people having lunch and flying their remote control airplanes Tuesday afternoon. The soft drink machine is ruined and the Pepsi Co. may choose not to replace it, said Keith Davidson, HAWKS founding member.

“They didn’t even get minimum wage for the amount of time they had to work on it,” he said.
