Suspected Kohl’s thief eludes police through woods and then on stolen bicycle

After stealing a pair of shoes and clothes from Kohl’s, an unknown man fled through the woods to a neighborhood, where he stole a bicycle from an open garage, according to police.

Police officers were dispatched at 2:04 p.m. June 8 to Kohl’s on Princeton Road for a reported theft.  A Kohl’s loss prevention officer described the suspect as a white male wearing a red T-shirt. She said the suspect stole a pair of Nike shoes and some Nike T-shirts before fleeing the store.

Two Butler County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also pursuing the subject when dispatchers called for Fairfield Twp. officers to respond.

The suspect fled to the wooded area next to Shaffer’s Run Community Park. Police officers and sheriff’s deputies searched the wooded area when one of the deputies saw the suspect running toward the Walden Ponds neighborhood.

He left the neighborhood on a bicycle going north on Ohio 4.

The bike was discarded at Speedway on Creekside Drive.

Kohl’s officials said the four T-shirts and the pair of shoes totaled $131.25.

Sandals the man had been wearing were sent to the Miami Valley Crime Lab to see if any DNA could be recovered.
