Philip Zink, 41, was arrested about an hour after dispatchers received a call about a stabbing at the Miami Mobile Home Park in the 5200 block of College Corner Pike.
Zink was initially booked into the Butler County Jail for aggravated robbery. The charges against Zink were upped by Oxford Police today to include murder, felonious assault and aggravated robbery.
Zink was video arraigned in Butler County Area II Court by Magistrate John McNally who set bond at $700,000, according to area court personnel. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday in county Area I Court.
Oxford police responded around 8:30 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 5200 block of College Corner Pike and found Denver Hubbard, 56, of Oxford, stabbed and 76-year-old Edna Oatman with injuries to her face and hand.
Hubbard was transported to McCullough-Hyde Hospital, where he died, police said. Oatman was also transported to the hospital for her injuries, police said.
Hubbard died from a stab wound and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was performed Monday.
Officers located Zink in a nearby trailer, according to Sgt. Jon Varley. The two men were friends.
In a 911 call, Hubbard told dispatchers he had been stabbed and was “bleeding to death.” At first, he was unable to give them the address of the mobile home. His call was then transferred to the Oxford police department.
He told the dispatcher: “Please hurry. Hurry.”
He was put on hold for a few seconds. “Hurry. Hurry. Hurry. Please hurry,” he said.
When the dispatcher returned to the call, she asked if Hubbard was still there and told him police officers were on the way.
“I can’t talk right now,” he told the dispatcher. “Please hurry.”
Soon after, an officer was heard in the background and the call ended.
