Man facing felony charge for alleged assault on Hamilton police officer

A Liberty Twp. man’s case has been sent to a Butler County grand jury following an alleged assault on a police officer.

Hamilton Police Officer Joseph Murray asked a man who was causing an issue in the utilities customer service area of the city building on High Street to leave on May 11, but the man continued to cause as disturbance, according to a Hamilton police report.

John Joseph Hutchinson IV continued to curse and scream in the presence of other people, according to the report.

When Murray told Hutchinson he was under arrest, “the defendant began to resist arrest and struck the (officer) in the face and elbow causing injury,” according to the police report.

Hutchinson, 34, of the 6500 block of Hansbrinker Drive, was charged with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

His case was bound over to a grand jury on May 18 following a preliminary hearing in Hamilton Municipal Court. He remains housed in the Butler County Jail.
