Three men charged with dozens of crimes were arraigned Monday in Butler County Common Pleas Court for an alleged February sexual assault in Oxford.

“This is a very brutal rape case,” Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser said. “One of the worst this office has seen.”

The allegations involve a single victim, a 19-year-old woman who was visiting Oxford on Feb. 11 and 12. The assault occurred in an off-campus apartment complex at 3770 Southpointe Parkway, Oxford Police Chief John Jones said.

Roger Richard Michael Simpson, 23, of Cincinnati, is charged with 23 felony crimes, including 10 counts of rape, sexual battery, complicity to rape and kidnapping. Judge Michael Oster set his bond at $300,000 and ordered that he be confined to electronic home monitoring if released on bond.

EliljahLee Mincy, 21, of North Campus Avenue, Oxford, is also charged with 23 felony crimes, including three counts of rape, complicity to rape, sexual battery, kidnapping and complicity to rape. Bond was set at $250,000, and it was ordered that he be confined to electronic home monitoring if released on bond.

Rodney Adrian Louis Gibson II, 21, of Cincinnati is charged with 26 crimes, including two counts of rape, sexual battery, kidnapping and complicity to rape. Judge Oster also set bond at $250,000 and ordered that he be confided to electronic home monitoring if released on bond.

According to Carole Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Miami University, Simpson, Mincy and Gibson are not currently Miami students.

During the arraignment hearing, Gibson’s attorney said he was a student in kinesiology at Miami.

Police were called to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital during the early morning hours of Feb. 12 to investigate a reported sexual assault, according to the chief.

The victim was intoxicated at a party at a residence at the apartment complex and became separated from her friends, according to police.

The men are accused of luring the teen to another residence and sexually assaulting her, Jones said.
When the teen’s friends went to the residence, they were told she was not there, according to police. The men are accused of pushing the teen back into a bedroom when she tried to leave as she went in and out of consciousness.
“During the assault the female’s friends came to the apartment looking for her but were turned away, saying she was not present. The female was forced to answer text messages saying she was okay as the suspects were concerned police would be called,” Jones said in a press release. “The female made attempts to leave but was forced back into the bedroom.”
The teen was then driven to a bar, where her friends learned what happened, Jones said.
Jones said the case was presented directly to a grand jury after a lengthy investigation which included search warrants, interviews, and forensic analysis.

The 72-count indictment was handed down by a grand jury on June 14, but it was sealed until the suspects were arrested, according to Gmoser.
