UPDATE @3:45 p.m.:

Speed was a contributing factor in a crash involving a car and a semi-truck Friday morning that caused a 30-minute shutdown of Interstate 75 in both directions north of the Middletown exit.

Trooper Jacob Olsen of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Lebanon post said a car was traveling south on I-75 in one of the two left lanes at 73 to 75 mph in heavy rain before the driver lost control and struck a left rear tire of the semi-tractor pulling a trailer. This pushed the semi enough to go off the right side of the highway, causing it to overturn and land into a ditch.

Olsen said the car, a Ford Fusion, went to the right and was able to clear the cross-cut in the concrete barrier separating the north and south lanes of I-75 at mile marker 34.8 in Franklin Twp. The driver went into the northbound lanes of I-75, but was not struck by oncoming traffic.

There were no injuries reported to either driver, Olsen said.

Olsen said the driver of the Ford Fusion was Brendan Webster, 22, of Dayton, and that he will be cited for failure to control. The truck driver will not be cited.
