“It was a very successful day,” said Fairfield Civitan president Brad Vanoss. Though attendance was lower than expected, they still raised money to help the youth of the community.
The money raised will go toward the club’s general fund, and this year they’ll focus on renovating the Civitan baseball fields. They sponsor several baseball teams, which play games and practice at the Civitan fields near Harbin Park off Hunter Road.
The annual chili contest is another way to ensure residents know more about the city’s oldest service club. The Fairfield Civitan Club was founded in 1954, a year before Fairfield became a city.
“It’s amazing to me that lifetime residents of Fairfield have never even heard of us,” Vanoss said.
On April 4, the Civitan will re-dedicate its baseball fields, which includes renovations to the fields and dugouts, with a ceremony and game.
