Changes coming to West Chester park

Improvements are on the way at Keehner Park in West Chester Twp. this spring.

The West Chester trustees approved improvements to the restrooms on the west side of the park and amphitheater totalling $37,900 on Tuesday.

“This pair of restrooms are original to the park and were put in about 20 years ago with the construction of the amphitheatre,” Community Services Director Tim Franck said. “The new restrooms will be more accommodating and easier to access for all guests who come to enjoy the park.”

Portable restrooms will be in place for park guests while work is underway.

The restrooms on the east side of the park, near the tennis courts, were renovated in 2015. A new playground was installed on the west side of the park in 2016.

Aesthetic improvements are also planned for the Keehner Park Amphitheatre, home to the West Chester Concert Series. The series kicks off June 3 and features free, live music almost every Saturday evening through Labor Day.

Keehner Park features shelters, two playground areas, creek-side wooded trails, recreational sports courts and fields.

The 123-acre property is annually home to numerous free community events, including children’s nature programs, music and arts events, and holiday celebrations.
