Cases update: Butler County records largest one-day increase in coronavirus deaths

Butler County reported an increase of three coronavirus deaths in its data update on Thursday, the largest one-day increase since the pandemic began.

The county reported 21 deaths on Thursday, three more than Wednesday and five more than the 16 reported on Tuesday. The large majority of victims, 17, are males.

All of those who died in Butler County have been over 50 years old, and 10 of the 21 deaths were in the 45014 zip code, which is predominantly the city of Fairfield.

In all, there have been 711 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Butler County, with another 12 probable cases based on the expanded definition by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The number of cases in Butler County increased 33 percent from last Thursday.

Butler County's first COVID-19 cases were reported on March 11.

Statewide, there are 30,167 total cases with 1,836 deaths.
