Cindy Carpenter was victorious in seeking her third term on Butler County Commission.

The Republican bested Dora Bronston, president of the Middletown Branch of the NAACP.

Carpenter, whose win marked her seventh straight election to a countywide office, said during a debate last month that homelessness, a countywide transportation plan, and the local workforce skills gap were areas that needed to be addressed.

“When we’re bringing in jobs, we’re bringing in high-paying jobs,” she said. “Our problem right now is we have too many employers and not enough trained employees.”

Carpenter claimed 65 percent of the vote, according to final unofficial results from the board of elections.

After the win Tuesday, the commissioner told the Journal-News she is grateful to voters for letting her continue her work.

“I’m thankful to the voters of Butler County for their confidence in me,” she said. “And I will continue to work very hard to represent them and their interests, to the best of my ability.”

Bronston, who conceded at about 10 p.m. when only about half of the county’s votes had been counted, said she realized there was no chance in Butler County’s Republican stronghold that she could pull out a win.

But, she said, she will never stop trying to make a difference.

“When you have a passion for something and I felt like it was something placed in my spirit and my heart to pursue, something that I wanted to do,” she said. “And defeat is never in my vocabulary.”
