A vintage-feel candy shop has opened its second Ohio location in Middletown.
Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, at 1212 Central Ave. in Middletown, has a selection of fresh, homemade doughnuts alongside its candy, old-fashioned glass bottled sodas and ice cream.
Grandpa Joe’s was founded by Christopher Beers in Pittsburgh, and has locations in Pennsylvania. Tiffany and Bill Kelly opened the first Ohio location with Beers earlier this year in downtown Miamisburg.
The appeal of the store, Kelly previously told this news outlet, is its vintage feel.
The stores have hundreds of bottles of specialty sodas. Flavors include everything from Coca-Cola to Flying Cauldron Butter Scotch Beer and specialty sodas that taste like ranch dressing, pickle juice and buffalo sauce.
The store also offers bulk candy orders and gourmet chocolate candies. Customers can fill a box of goodies from their candy buffet for just $5.
Customers can also buy novelty items like funny socks, notepads, mugs and magic trick toys.
Customers can also buy products online at grandpajoescandyshop.com.
According to the National Confectioners Association, the candy industry directly employs 55,000 people in the United States, and more than 400,000 jobs in agriculture, retail, transportation and other industries are supported by the candy industry.
