Butler County commissioner: New administrator hire likely to come Monday

It took less than a month for the Butler County commissioners to find their new administrator, and they plan to finish the process on Monday.

The new administrator will replace Charlie Young, who announced his retirement in mid-December. Commissioners said they will not identify their choice until it becomes official on Monday.

Commissioner Don Dixon said he is very certain the person will be confirmed following an executive session.

“It appears we have a person we can all agree on,” Dixon said. “It’s pretty exciting to be that close in the short time we’ve had. The whole process is coming together fairly quickly and unanimously, it appears to me.”

The commissioners maintained a limited candidate pool through the process and said they preferred to interview people they knew from their record.

The last time the commissioners needed a new leader, it took more than a year to settle on Young. He was hired in July 2012, replacing Bruce Jewett, who left to become Butler County United Way president and chief executive officer.

Former Port Authority chief Mike Campbell served as interim county administrator from June 2011 until Young was chosen. At least two candidates turned the commissioners down for the job at that time.
