Boy, 17, struck by stray bullet in Middletown

A Middletown boy was shot in the foot Thursday night by a stray bullet while standing on a home’s front porch, according to police.

Middletown police responded at 11:50 p.m. on a report of shots fired in the 800 block of 11th Avenue, according to a police report.

Three people said they were on the home’s front porch when one of them suffered a gunshot wound to his left foot, according to the report.

The boy, 17, with the wound told police he didn’t see anyone or hear any vehicles.

The boy’s mother told police she was asleep when she heard several gunshots and one round had entered the home.

Officers located nine, 9-millimeter spent shell casings. Police also found bullet holes in the rear paneling of the house and damage to the front banister. A bullet also was found in a couch in the living room, according to the report.

The boy told police that when he heard the shots he ran because he was scared. That’s when he felt the round hit his foot. He was transported to Atrium Medical Center by paramedics for treatment.
