5 big St. Patrick’s Day events in the Butler County region

Like most modern holidays, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations have drifted a bit from their origins (you’re actually supposed to go to church for a full Mass). In 2019, there are all kinds of ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, a few of them even civic-minded and healthy. To that end, we’ve compiled a list of St. Patrick’s Day parties that’s only mostly devoted to green beer.


St. Patrick’s Day Beer Mile

Many people drink and then exercise to burn the calories off, so why not an event that does both at the same time? This one-mile race has two requirements: that you finish the race first and drink a beer along the way. There will be food at the end and prizes for best costume and the best three finishers.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Weekend

This annual St. Patrick’s Day parade that began in 1967 starts at Paul Brown Stadium and ends at the Freedom Center and Rosa Parks Street. The grand marshal will be Jeff Berding, general manager of FC Cincinnati, and a band will play the national anthem beforehand. After the parade, which always takes place rain, snow, or shine, stick around for live Celtic rock music, face painting, Irish food, and lots of Guinness, all on the square!

St. Patrick’s Weekend Bash

Celebrate St. Paddy’s Day watching your favorite sports while drinking $5 Irish beers, $4 mini-beers, and sampling a Reuben special. There will also be a Kegs & Eggs on Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m.

The Green Beer Murders

All you wanted was some green beer and you end up getting sucked into a murder mystery. A gangster has decided to take out a rival gang’s leader, and only your sleuthing abilities and the luck of the Irish can solve the crime. There will be plenty of drink, dinner, and dessert to fuel your thinking caps.

St. Patrick’s Day Weekend at the Dingle House

The Dingle House, the premier Irish pub in West Chester, hosts one of the most popular St. Patrick’s Day parties of the year. The doors open Sunday at 8 a.m. for kegs and eggs, followed by an afternoon of bagpipes, Irish dancers, live music, and beer tubs throughout the bar to accommodate demand. Due the holiday falling on a Sunday this year, the bar will be packed with green-clad revelers all weekend long who don’t want a Monday hangover at work.
