$50 gift cards offered at Middletown vaccine event this week

Those who get vaccinated for COVID-19 will receive a $50 gift card Friday at the Middletown Community Health Celebration.
The cards, courtesy of CareSource, will be from Visa or retail stores and will serve as incentives to convince people to get vaccinated, said Deborah Patterson, director of the Dream Center.
She said certain demographics are reluctant to get vaccinated.
New business coming to former True West Coffee location on High Street in Hamilton
A decade after he sold his first custom-designed cakes at age 12, Luke Heizer is taking his business to a storefront on Hamilton’s High Street.
Heizer, who grew up in Trenton and is a 2017 Edgewood High School graduate, began his cake-designing with cakes depicting Ironman and Dora the Explorer.
Heizer’s father, Alan, is helping build out the interior of the former True West Coffee shop on High Street. The other True West, on Main Street, remains open. Heizer’s mother, Tammie, does most of the cake-baking, and he does the decorating of cupcakes and cakes that can be very elaborate.
Recent Mason High School graduate dies after virus infection, heart transplant
A recent graduate of Mason High School died recently after a virus infection, the school district announced on Sunday.
Simone Scott, a member of the Class of 2020 who was a student at Northwestern University, died after contracting a virus infection that was not COVID-19, the district said.
“Our entire Comet Family is grieving the loss of Mason High School Class of 2020′s Simone Scott,” the district said in a Facebook post. “This weekend we learned that Simone passed away following what was suspected as being a virus (not COVID) attack her heart a few weeks ago, which resulted in her receiving a heart transplant.
Man accused in fatal Middletown bar fight scheduled for trial next month
A Middletown man accused in a fatal bar fight and his attorney were in Butler County Common Pleas Court Thursday confirming they are ready for trial in July .
Brian Ingram, 52, is charged with murder and felonious assault after allegedly punching and kicking a man on Feb. 25 at Billy T’s on Tytus Avenue.
The man Ingram allegedly assaulted, Phillip Taulbee, 56, of Middletown, died a day after the incident at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Parents encouraged to bring children to get vaccinated at pop-up clinic in Fairfield

A walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic Tuesday is focused on inoculating teens ahead of the 2021-22 school year as officials continue efforts to increase the vaccination rate, including students.
Fairfield High School, 8800 Holden Blvd., will host a pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic inside its cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday . The primary goal is to have parents bring their children ages 12 and older ― especially those in sports or clubs ― to be vaccinated.
“It’s focused on teens ― getting back to school, getting back to athletics, being safe in the fall ― but anybody can come,” said county Health Commissioner Jennifer Bailer. “Teens and their family members, their neighbors. People can walk right up.”

The statue of Jesus was destroyed by an overnight fire caused by an apparent lightning strike at the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio. The photos were shot at approximately 11:20PM on Monday, June 14, 2010.
