D.L. Stewart: Will Donald get mad about this column? You can bet on it

With football season winding down, gambling junkies may have found a new outlet: predicting Donald Trump’s tweets. This week’s winner would be New Yorker Jimmy Traina, who almost-precisely nailed the time Donald Trump ripped on Meryl Streep.

In case you missed the action, Streep accepted a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes and used the occasion to assail the president-elect for publicly mocking a disabled reporter.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me — it sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth,” Streep said of the incident. “It was the moment where the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out of head because it wasn’t a movie, it was real life.”

Her remarks, which drew a predictably-positive reaction from the choir to which she was preaching, prompted Traina to tweet: "Great Twitter betting pool right now would be to predict the exact time of Trump's tweet blasting Meryl Streep: I'll go with 6:24 am."

So close.

The first of three Trump tweets about the three-time Oscar winner was 6:27 a.m.

“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes…She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never “mocked” a disabled reporter (would never do that) … but simply showed him “groveling” when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”

As news of his prediction thread throughout the Twitterverse, Traina started receiving congratulatory messages, although the New Yorker was suitably modest about it.

“I’m seeing all your congratulatory tweets about the betting pool & I appreciate them,” he tweeted Monday afternoon. “For the record, though, nobody should get or take credit for what that pathetic pea brain will do. It’s clockwork.”

Will Trump reply to that post?

I’ll go with 6:17 am.
