Springboro restaurant closes, will reopen in Franklin

Scruffy's Hot Dogs has shut down after a five-year run at 85 W. Central Ave. in Springboro, but will reopen around March 1 in a new location at 425 S. Main St. in downtown Franklin, owner Steve Bell said in a message to customers.

“Last Saturday was my last day of business at that (Springboro) location, and it was my pleasure to serve you there,” Bell wrote. “I hope you’ll allow me the honor to serve you in Franklin.”

The new location is just south of Pisanello’s Pizza, Bell said.

Scruffy’s Hot Dogs was the culmination of Bell’s entrepreneurial imagination, fueled in part by an earlier layoff, Bell said shortly after the restaurant opened in 2011.

Dog dishes and other canine accoutrements decorated the dining room.

“I grew up in Chicago. I’ve always wanted to own a Chicago-style hot dog place,” Bell said the week he opened the restaurant.

He could not be reached for comment this morning.
