See one of Rolling Stone’s ‘10 New Country Artists You Need to Know’

HAMILTON — In October, Rolling Stone named Jeremy Pinnell as one of its “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know,” and that’s exciting for everyone in the Tri-State — because Pinnell will be one of the featured artists in this year’s WintersEdge concert series.

“We had this show booked a couple of months ago, and to see something like that happen is incredible,” said Adam Helms, director of resident services for the city of Hamilton.

Pinnell, a rising country artist, is a Northern Kentucky native. He released his first full-length album, “OH/KY,” in 2014 on SofaBurn Records. In 2017, Pinnell released his second album, “Ties of Blood and Affection.”

“Country music is … starting to cycle back towards the traditional country music, and that’s definitely where Jeremy Pinnell fits in. He writes some incredible songs. His lyrics are great, and then he has a really solid backing band with steel guitar, a fiddle player, and it’s an interesting sound for people, who like a traditional country music sound,” Helms said.

WintersEdge, Hamilton’s winter concert series, will kick off the 2017-2018 season with two hometown acts from Hamilton – Circle It and Off Black on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. The concerts are free, all ages, and feature a range of local/regional acts, including pop, rock, blues, country and jazz.

The series will continue on Saturday, Jan. 20, with Hot Magnolias. On Saturday, Feb. 24, Jeremy Pinnell will be in concert with Elk Creek. The season will conclude with a St. Patrick’s Day show on Saturday, March 17 with Kentucky Myle. All shows start at 8 p.m. RiversEdge continues to partner with the Fitton Center to bring the series to the community.

“We love doing the RiversEdge concerts in the summer, and then, we have to wait six months to do it again. We had the equipment and another venue to do this in. So we thought we should to do some shows over the winter months and Ian (MacKenzie-Thurley) was gracious enough to expand the programming at the Fitton Center. … We felt we were bringing something new to the Fitton Center line-up, in addition to all the other great programming,” said Helms.

This is the third year for the WintersEdge concert series. Last year, there was a huge response to acts like blues guitarist Noah Wotherspoon, who attracted an at-capacity/sold-out crowd with around 300 in attendance.

“Some of these bands are just getting their start, and to put them in an intimate venue like the Fitton Center is more fun for the band, and it’s more fun for the people who are attending,” Helms said.
