Concertgoers will have one more opportunity to experience a WintersEdge concert at the Fitton Center before RiversEdge moves outdoors to the ampitheater. The April 8 concert is a preview of the summer series as both Automagik and the Radio Birds will be at RiversEdge this summer.
We caught up with Automagik’s drummer, Andy Cluxton to talk about the band’s music and what is planned for the show.
“Audiences can expect a lot of high-energy rock n’ roll. We have a lot of fun when we play music, and especially when we play live. It’s all this build-up and release of energy,” Cluxton said.
Joining Cluxton on stage as Automagik is Zachary Evans (vocals/guitar); Devin Williams (lead guitar) and Jamie Rasmussen (bass).
“We’ve all been really big music fans for a long time, and to the ability to do that, (play music) and see people react and connect to it is such a cool thing to experience, whether it’s five people in a room, or 500. It’s always great to connect with people on that musical level, because music is such a fundamental need for people,” Cluxton said.
Right now, he said the band is focused on the road, and playing at places Automagik has never played before. As part of that plan, the band is in the midst of a non-stop spring tour that is taking them from Ohio to places like Rock Island, IL and Lawrence, Kansas, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Syracuse, New York. The Cincinnati-based group recently played a showcase during SXSW in Austin, Texas. The band will also play at Cincinnati’s Bunbury Music Festival, on June 3-5. This is Automagik’s first appearance at the Fitton Center.
“We’re also playing at RiversEdge on June 16 with an awesome band called Main Squeeze out of Chicago. So the Fitton Center show and the upcoming RiversEdge concert are the first two shows we’ll play in Hamilton, but around Cincinnati we play a lot,” Cluxton said.
According to Cluxton, Evans and Williams are Automagik’s primary songwriters. He said the song and video for “Pop Kiss” featured on the band’s EP Dark Daze is connecting with fans.
“It’s a fun song, and I think we found a video that matched that. Zach did all the animation, and a lot of time went into the editing. We really knocked out of the park with getting a song that is whimsical, uplifting and happy, and we paired it with a video that matched that,” he said.
