FAIRFIELD — Southwest Ohio has seen mostly gray this spring, but the city of Fairfield promises to serve up an abundance of green for the summer.
Groovin’ on the Green, the city’s annual outdoor concert series, returns May 26, as it typically does, with a concert by the Fairfield High School Band.
But just as the series boasts a number of familiar acts, such as such as Robin Lacy and Parrots of the Caribbean, this year Groovin’ on the Green will bring in a variety of acts that have not only never been to the Green, but haven’t been to Fairfield at all, said Ben Strickler, events manager for the city’s parks department.
More than five acts are new to the series, but Strickler said he didn’t plan that.
“There’s probably a couple more new groups than usual, but there’s no rhyme or reason to it,” Strickler said. “The Juggernaut Jug Band, for instance, we saw at a regional conference, and Newfound Road is a band out of Middletown. They seemed to be a good fit.”
The lineup runs as follows, with new acts denoted by an asterisk. All concerts are free at the Village Green at the Fairfield Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Drive.
All concerts except the May 26 show start at 7 p.m.
May 26: The Fairfield High School band, which traditionally kicks off the series. Music begins at 6:30 p.m.
June 2: Anna & Milovan, a father/daughter combo playing folk/pop/blues. Anna Beljin is a senior at Miami University in Oxford.*
June 9: The Lucky Stars with Scotty Anderson, playing rock ’n’ roll.*
June 16: Saffire Express, playing classic/contemporary rock.*
June 23: JT Fredrick, playing jazz.*
June 30: Bluestone Ivory, a horn-based band playing classic rock.

July 14: Forever Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute.
