A new pizza restaurant plans to open this fall in Middletown.
Tim Smith said he expects to open Piazza Bistro in an approximately 5,000-square-foot space inside a 4-story building at 1126 Central Avenue.
Piazza Bistro won’t be Smith’s first foray into the restaurant business.
Smith said he has 25 years of experience owning his own restaurants, the majority of which have been pizza places. That includes Pizza Hotline in Carlisle and PH Bistro in Franklin, which burned down in 2011.
Main staples of Piazza Bistro will be pizzas, subs and salads.
“All my salsas, salad dressings and dipping sauces are made from scratch,” he said. “That stuff is what people really love out at my restaurants.”
His previous eateries were also known for their generous portions, including sub sandwiches laden with meat.
He said the vibe in downtown Middletown is “100 percent different” these days, something that attracted him to open a restaurant there.
“I can just feel it spreading,” he said. “It’s taken a while and it’s still going to take some years to be what they want it to be, but it is on the move. I have a really great feeling about it and I feel honored to have this great opportunity to have this new place there.”
