A specialty retailer of premium pet foods, treats, toys and accessories is bringing something new to West Chester Twp.

Pet Valu, 8144 Princeton Glendale Road, had been a Jack’s Pets since 2012, but Pet Valu last year purchased the Beavercreek Twp.-based company and its 32 locations around Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

The renovated and re-branded 4,208-square-foot storefront in Beckett Commons shopping center offers more than 7,000 products, including holistic and premium brands of pet foods and treats, as well as a wide selection of essential and innovative pet supplies aimed at every budget.

One of the biggest changes following the sale to Pet Valu was training aimed at helping customers with their every pet need. All staff members are required to take courses in pet health and nutrition through a program developed exclusively for Pet Valu through University of California at Davis Extension.

“When you enter our stores, you’re not only receiving friendly customer service, but more importantly, knowledgeable service,” said Anna DiGregorio, director of marketing. “We’re here to help pet parents take care of their four-legged children.”

Pet Valu also added a dog wash to the store, one that features three washing areas of varying depths for different-sized dog. For $10, the store provides towels, hair dryers, rubber aprons and a selection of four shampoos.

“It brings some excitement into the front of the store,” Ron Oblin, Pet Valu’s district manager, said Friday. “We’ve had 10 people wash their dogs this morning alone already.”

Completed last month, the renovation effort finds the store stocked more than 1,000 new items, including Performatrin Dog Food, an exclusive line of grain-free dog food, plus a variety of holistic, natural and freeze-dried food and treats.

There’s also a wider selection of pet supplies and toys, as well as a new look via new fixtures, graphics and flooring.

Pets for sale include reptiles, birds, fish and small pets. The cats at the front of the store are offered for adoption via a local animal shelter.

Holding Ella, her family’s new six-month old puppy, Monica Koratchko, of West Chester Twp., said the new store “looks fabulous” and the bathing station is a welcome addition.

“They did a great job,” she said. “It’s very nice and … it’s more of a community feel than going to a bigger store.”

Ally Homa, Pet Valu’s Marketing Manager, said the acquisition of Jack’s Pets allows Pet Valu to tap into a new market and its Beavercreek warehouse allows Pet Valu to cover its entire Midwest market, providing the opportunity to reach western Pennsylvania with its new Pittsburgh stores.

Pet Valu plans to continue to expand in current, as well as untapped markets in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and surrounding states, Homa said.

Each Pet Valu location is dedicated to helping local pets in need by partnering with local shelters, rescues and charities for adoption events and pet food bank programs, as well as national donation drives and fundraising campaigns.
