New Dollar General opening in Franklin

Dollar General on Saturday will celebrate the grand opening of its new Franklin store at 30 East Sixth Street.

The discount retailer is relocating to the newly built store from nearby 100 East Sixth Street, where it first opened in Franklin in 1994, according to Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General Corp.

Customers will enjoy special deals and free prizes at the grand opening event beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. Additionally, the first 50 adult shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways, according to the company.

The new location features a fresh layout, designed to make shopping easier and simpler for customers, Dollar General officials say. Some of the store’s new features include seasonal products featured in the center of the store, easily recognizable departments with visible signage and coolers that are more conveniently located at the front of the store.

The store employs between six and 10 people, according to Dollar General spokeswoman Crystal Ghassemi.

Dollar General currently operates more than 11,500 stores across the country, 624 of which are in Ohio, Ghassemi said.

Plans are still to open 700 new stores this budget year, which ends January 31, 2015, for the retailer, she said. An additional 525 stores are slated to be remodeled this year across the country.
