Middletown to sell vacant land for local business expansion

Several vacant parcels of city-owned land are in the process of being sold to expand a local U-Haul business.

Middletown City Council is considering a development agreement to sell the property near the intersection of South Canal Street and Second Avenue to Amerco Real Estate Company of Phoenix, Ariz.

The city is selling the land for $9,000 so that the company can move forward with a $765,000 expansion of their U-Haul business operations, which will include the construction of three multi-unit storage buildings.

According to the development agreement, construction on the project will begin when the company applies for a building permit with an expected completion date of Dec. 31, 2019.

Council is expected to approve the ordinance as an emergency measure at its Sept. 4 meeting.
