This local manufacturer is hiring now

Lion Group Inc. — a producer of apparel and gear for first-responders and others — is hiring in the Dayton area.

Lion will host a career fair from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at its 66 Janney Road facility in North Dayton, the same plant that had been severely damaged in the Memorial Day tornadoes last year.

The Vandalia-based company is particularly looking for qualified industrial sewing operators to help with the production of the first responder gear. The company can arrange sewing training for interested job seekers.

Lion provides uniform and personal protective equipment, high-tech training equipment, training facilities and logistics services for police and fire departments, civilian government agencies, emergency services and the military.

More than six months after the tornadoes, the company still anchors local production at 66 Janney, where much of old North Dayton had been devastated by the outbreak of tornadoes.

The company in December had about 45 employees there, approaching 50 — about 15 more than when the tornadoes struck. (The family-owned company has about 1,000 employees nationwide.)
