Local Forever 21 store on list that could close in bankruptcy filing

The Dayton Mall Forever 21 store is among the 178 underperforming stores that are on the chopping block as the retail and accessory store files for bankruptcy, according to court documents obtained by the Dayton Daily News.

The Forever 21 store on the lower level of the Dayton Mall near Macy’s is one of five Ohio stores that could close if new lease terms aren’t negotiated. Other local stores that are among the 178 that could close include at the Kenwood Towne Centre in Cincinnati, Liberty Center and the Jeffersonville Tanger Outlets.

The only remaining local Forever 21 store would be at The Greene Town Center if the Dayton Mall store does close.

A fifth Ohio store that could close is at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.

“The Debtors do not anticipate closing all 178 store locations listed on Annex 2. As the Debtors negotiate rent concessions and other operational improvements with the applicable landlords, the Debtors expect that it will be in the Debtors’ best interest not to conduct Store Closings at certain locations,” according to the court filing.
