HIRING: New IKEA store in Ohio closer to opening

The newest IKEA location in Ohio is poised to open this summer, and construction crews are making major headway, according to the company.

The Swedish furniture retailer, which has just one other location in Ohio, is set to open its future Columbus store in the coming months, and workers are now installing electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot.

Construction on the new store has had a quick turn-around after construction crews broke ground on the site last May. Since then, they’ve erected the 354-000-square-foot building plus 1,200 parking spaces on 33 acres at the Polaris Centers of Commerce developments, the company said. The new IKEA property is just 15 miles north of downtown Columbus.

The new electric vehicle units reflect the continued partnership between IKEA and Car Charging Group Inc., according to a company statement. There are currently charging units at 16 IKEA stores in the U.S. The new Columbus will have other environmentally friendly features, including rooftop solar panels.

Nearly 90 percent of the company's locations have roof solar panels.

More than 500 jobs will be created during the construction phase, and approximately 300 more workers will be employed when the new store opens.

The company has locations in 48 countries, and has 42 in the U.S. The retailer also has a store located in West Chester Twp., just north of Cincinnati. The West Chester location was the first to open in Ohio in 2008.

Positions at the new store are currently posted online, with remaining opportunities available in Spring.
