Christ Hospital’s new Liberty Twp. facility to include birthing center

The Christ Hospital Health Network will bring a family birthing center to its medical center under construction in Liberty Twp., adding yet another Butler County option for expecting mothers.

Christ Hospital broke ground on The Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Township in October 2015. It is slated to open in early 2018.

The Cincinnati-based health network’s birthing center joins other maternity options in the Butler and Warren County medical building boom.

West Chester Hospital opened its maternity unit in 2015; Atrium Medical Center in Middletown recently unveiled its $1 million investment in a natural childbirth center; and Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital’s Family Birthing Center completed a $6 million renovation to mark the 20th anniversary of its birthing center.

“Butler County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state,” said Kendall Herold, spokeswoman for The Christ Hospital Health Network. “Part of the The Christ Hospital mission is to provide high-quality, convenient services close to where our consumers live. This service will help fill a need for the families in the area to be cared for by the most preferred doctors in the region.”

The new medical center will create approximately 300 new jobs, including nursing, imaging, and entry level opportunities. Hiring is scheduled to start in late summer.

More than 30 of those 300 jobs will be in the new birthing center, which will include nine labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum and nursing rooms, four private special care nursery rooms, and two dedicated cesarean section birthing rooms, Herold said.

Nine women’s health physicians will also be practicing at the birthing center.

“Whether you are a new mom, or have had children before, the Family Birthing Center at The Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Township is dedicated to providing the finest patient experiences for one of the most important moments of life,” said Dr. Robert Stephens, executive director of women’s health services at The Christ Hospital Health Network.

The plan for the center was developed and refined as part of the health network’s strategic plan in 2013, Herold said.

“This is our first off-campus ob/gyn unit in the network,” she said. “We believe the (labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum) model will meet the patient experience our patients expect and have received for more than 127 years.

The new medical center will be home to the only cesarean section birth viewing room in the region, allowing families to be in the room with the mother during a planned cesarean section birth with prior permission from the physician.

The birthing center will also offer natural childbirth amenities, including hydrotherapy and extra-large showers with seats in patient rooms. Inpatient and outpatient lactation services are also offered.
