Book Bums, at 8992 Cincinnati Dayton Rd., is a West Chester Twp. café with a mission — to promote literacy.

The ultimate goal is for parents to positively influence children’s reading habits, said Owner Christy Williams.

“We created a place outside of the school system… something comfortable where we could model before parents great things to do to encourage your child to become a good reader,” Williams said.

The café and lending library opened in 2010. Book Bums hosts adult book clubs, story hours and literacy workshops for parents and children. The café also serves coffee and other drinks, smoothies, sandwiches, soups and more.

“I host literacy workshops that are geared to 3-,4-,5-,6-year-olds, and the parents come in with their kids and I teach a lesson and then I pause and the parents engage in that activity with their kids,” said Williams who runs the shop with her husband Mike Williams.

A second café location has opened at Kids First Sports Center at 7900 East Kemper Road in Sycamore Twp. For more information, go online to www.bookbums.com or call 513-847-1471.
