Bass Pro West Chester store opening delayed

The opening of a new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store slated for West Chester Twp. has been pushed to 2016 from a previously announced target of 2015, according to the sporting goods retailer.

The seller of hunting, fishing and other outdoor gear first announced in October 2013 plans to build a 150,000-square-foot location in West Chester Twp. The existing Fairfield store at Forest Fair Village will close and employees will move to West Chester when the new store opens on Allen Road.

“We continue to be very excited about this new store location and we are still in the design process for this store. Due to the unique nature of our stores we want to ensure we get the very best store possible for our customers and visitors in this area,” Katie Mitchell, spokeswoman for Springfield, Missouri-based Bass Pro, said in an email.

The Butler County store is one of 20 new store announcements by Bass Pro, all in various stages of construction across the United States and Canada, Mitchell said. Currently Bass Pro operates 68 retail stores.

Moreover, the northern Cincinnati location in West Chester Twp. calls for a unique restaurant and bowling alley feature that only a “handful” of Bass Pro shops have, Mitchell said.

“Our stores are very unique in nature,” she said. “It really takes a year from the ground up to get a store done.”

Meanwhile, a new Dick's Sporting Goods location has been announced for the mega retail center Liberty Center under construction in nearby Liberty Twp.

Most recently on Thursday, this news outlet learned Cabela's plans to start construction before the end of this year on its new West Chester Twp. site on Liberty Way.

Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. also opened last year a Field & Stream store in Crescent Springs, Ky., and plans another location at the Austin Landing development in Miami Twp. to open still in 2014.
