Amazon adds another local location to pick up orders

Amazon is rolling out a new way for people to get their orders.

The online retail giant will soon allow people to pick up their packages at local Rite Aid pharmacy locations in the Dayton area and around the country.

So far, Amazon has rolled out the service called a “Pickup Counter” at 100 Rite Aid Stores, according to a release. By the end of the year, the service will be available at more than 1,500 locations.

Amazon describes the service as: “a new network of staffed pickup points that gives customers the option to pick up their Amazon packages in-store at a partner location.” The new pickup counters will work with same-day, one-day, two-day and standard shipping options, according to Amazon.

The service originally rolled out in the United Kingdom and Italy and has received positive reactions. Amazon is looking to bring on more large chains and small businesses to host the counters.

Amazon customers can select the pickup counter option when checking out on the retail website by using their zip code to find a location. As soon as their package arrives at the store, customers will receive an e-mail notification with a barcode as well as a reminder of the address and the business hours of their selected store, according to Amazon.

At the store, customers provide the barcode to staff, who will scan it, retrieve the package, and hand it to the customer. Customers have 14 days to collect their package, according to Amazon.

Amazon already has a “locker” pickup option available for Dayton area shoppers. Customers can order their products to one of the following five lockers and pick them up once they arrive.
