Springboro native Gilkison headed to NCAA Golf Championships

Play in the NCAA Championships of course.

Springboro native Josh Gilkison will do just that as a member of the Kent State Golden Flashes.

Gilkison and his teammates qualified with a fifth-place finish Wednesday at the Kissimmee (Fla.) Regional. The Golden Flashes, ranked 29th nationally, will be joined by winner Florida, UCF, Vanderbilt and North Carolina.

Gilkison, a freshman, shot a final-round, even-par 72 and finished tied for 47th overall with a 2-over 218 in the 54-hole event.

The NCAA Tournament is set for May 25-30 at Rich Harvest Farms Karsten Creek Club in Stillwater, Okla. After three rounds of stroke play, the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will compete in the final round of stroke play to determine the individual champions and the the top eight teams that will advance to match play.

Gilkison, the 2016 Ohio Junior champion, has won back-to-back Dayton Metropolitan Amateur championships.
