Sports headlines: Miami Hamilton falls to Sinclair

MUH baseball falls to Sinclair

HAMILTON — The Miami University Hamilton baseball team dropped a 17-10 decision to Sinclair Community College on Sunday at Foundation Field.

Seth Martin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs; Joe Jocketty collected two hits and drove in two runs; and Zach Beymer had three hits for MUH (17-23). Sinclair improved to 22-10.

Miami edges Western Michigan

OXFORD — Ryan Kaup rapped a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday to lift the Miami baseball team to an 8-7 victory over Western Michigan at McKie Field.

Lakota West product Brad Gschwind went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs for Miami (19-18, 7-5 Mid-American Conference).

The RedHawks face Xavier on Wednesday.

Torres leads Miami softball

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Daniela Torres went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Miami Univeristy softball team to a 5-3 win over Eastern Michigan.

Kathryn Russette added two hits and scored two runs for Miami (19-17, 4-6 MAC).

The RedHawks host Butler on Tuesday.

Miami men’s track second at All-Ohio

CINCINNATI — Miami University’s men’s track team finished second Saturday in the All-Ohio Championships at the University of Cincinnati.

Matt Rudin won the decathalon with a personal-best 6,452 points and Matt Losi won the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 13.74 meters (45-1).

Miami finished with 126.5 points. Akron won the meet with 212 points.

Miami women’s track third at All-Ohio

CINCINNATI — The Miami women’s track team finished third Saturday in the All-Ohio Championships at the University of Cincinnati.

Alexandra Roberts won the shot put (49-4 1/2), Erica Mudd won the high jump (5-8) and Katie Scannell won the 400 hurdles (1:01.51) for Miami, which totaled 103 points. UC won the meet with 178 and Dayton was second.

At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Miami’s Rachel Patterson placed fifth in the 5000-meter run in a school-record time of 11:14.45.

Miami tennis blanks Ball State

HAMILTON — The Miami University tennis team beat Ball State 7-0 Saturday at Riverside Racquet Club. The win was the 28th straight against league opponents and set up a showdown with undefeated Akron next week.

The RedHawks (15-5, 6-0), winners of 23 straight regular-season conference matches, host the 74th-ranked Zips on Friday in a matchup of teams yet to taste defeat in conference play.
