Reds starter Scott Feldman had season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the Reds announced Tuesday. Feldman was placed on the disabled list twice this season due to inflammation in his knee.

“I think it was inevitable that at some point in time, he'd have the knee taken care of,” Reds manager Bryan Price said when Feldman was placed on the DL Aug. 18. “We'll get back to Cincinnati to see what the next step is from this recurring knee problem.”

It was widely expected that Feldman wouldn’t rejoin the rotation this season. Feldman was visibly in pain during his last start on Thursday. His velocity sat around 82 mph.

“If it doesn’t get any better, I don’t think I can pitch like that anymore,” the 34-year-old Feldman said. “We’ll see.”

Feldman is a free agent after the season, putting his future very much in question.
