HS Roundup 1/29: Pair of GWOC teams beat the buzzer

Centerville’s Matt Pearce and Miamisburg’s Corey Hartman led their respective boys basketball teams in some late game heroics on Tuesday.

Pearce drained a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to power visiting Centerville past Purcell Marian 62-61.

It marked a seventh consecutive win for Centerville. Pearce finished with 27 points and Ryan Marchal added 13.

Miamisburg edged host Fenwick 44-42 after Hartman hit the game-winning basket with 3.6 seconds to play.

Hartman finished with 20 points and Drew Barry added a solid defensive effort for ‘Burg.

C.J. Napier had 14 points in a losing effort for Fenwick.

Boys Basketball

Brookville 80, Covington 41: Jacob Gudorf set two Brookville records in the win. He recorded nine steals in the game to pass the previous record held by Derek Day. Gudorf also broke his own school record of steals in a season with his 55th.

Carroll 55, Dayton Christian 39: Simon Jefferson finished with 26 points, Austin Schafer added 13 and Carroll opened the game on a 13-4 run to pull ahead early. Anton Webb led DC with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Catholic Central 62, Emmanuel Christian 47: Adonis Davis recorded 21 points with 12 rebounds and Fred Shropshire added 17 in a losing effort for Emmanuel.

Chaminade Julienne 66, Thurgood Marshall 64: Milton Gage tallied 27 points for CJ, which jumped ahead early but had to hold off a Thurgood rally late. Larry Turner and Dan Nauseef added 10 apiece. Mekhi Elmore paced Thurgood in the loss with 18 points. CJ will host Moeller on Saturday in a high-powered matchup of No. 1 ranked teams in the Associated Press state poll.

Lebanon 62, West Carrollton 58: Zach Huffman posted 20 points with 15 rebounds, Milo White added 14 points and Nick Lang sank 10 foul shots on the way to 12 points for Lebanon.

Northmont 67, Alter 65: Danny Lewis led Northmont with 17 points and Patrick Ivory added 11. Jack Smith scored 20 points in a losing effort for Alter.

Sidney 62, Tippecanoe 48: Andre Gordon poured in 28 points, Josiah Hudgins chipped in 17 and Ratez Roberts 12 to lead Sidney.

St. Marys 56, New Bremen 52: Ethan Steger finished with 27 points for St. Marys, which opened the game on a 15-3 run. Nolan Bornhorst led New Bremen with 17 points.

Xenia 92, Stebbins 63: Samari Curtis sparked Xenia with 36 points, Dylan Hoosier had 17 and Noah Crawford 11. Damiene Boles Jr. paced Stebbins with 22 points and Jalen Tolbert added 10.

Girls Basketball

Arcanum 48, Bradford 40: Kayla O’Daniel recorded 17 points and Hailey Unger added 10 for Arcanum.

Coldwater 45, Lima Shawnee 42: Lauren Gilliland spurred a Coldwater rally with 22 points and Kate Leichty added 10.

Fort Loramie 58, St. Henry 24: Jadyn Puthoff had 14 points off the bench and Marissa Meiring tacked on 13 for Fort Loramie.

Fort Recovery 49, Franklin Monroe 44: Corina Conley scored 24 points and Chloe Peters 11 but Franklin Monroe fell victim to a fourth quarter rally from Fort Recovery.

Legacy Christian 65, Carlisle 33: The win moved Legacy to 16-2.

National Trail 44, Dayton Christian 33: Trail put the game away with a 12-point swing in the final quarter. Camryn Collinsworth had 11 points for Dayton Christian.

Talawanda 51, Eaton 46: Kyra Koontz totaled 19 points with 15 rebounds and Sophie Pohlabel added 13 points with 11 boards to help Talawanda end a 19-game losing skid. Becca Mowen led Eaton with 15 points.

Tri-Village 60, Miami East 44: Meghan Downing chipped in 17 points and Maddie Downing and Emma Printz put up 16 apiece to help Tri-Village, winners of 15 straight, remain unbeaten in conference play.

West Liberty-Salem 41, Versailles 39: Gabby Hollar had 14 points and Selena Weaver 11 to help WLS rally in the second half.

Girls Bowling

Northmont 2251, Lebanon 2210: Northmont rolled seven strikes in a row in the second baker game to earn the victory. Hailey Yingst led the way with a 419 series.
