HS Roundup 2/18: Mullen, Peterson pace Catholic Central in tourney win

The Catholic Central girls basketball team advanced to its first sectional final in 20 years, beating Yellow Springs 49-41 on Tuesday.

Mallory Mullen put up 15 points, Serenity Castle added 11 and Abbigail Peterson set a school record for career three-point baskets to lead Catholic Central.

Angie Smith led Yellow Springs with 20 points and Aaliyah Longshaw tacked on 15.

Catholic Central advances to face Tri-Village at Brookville on Monday.

Girls Basketball


Beavercreek 45, Troy 26: ‘Creek coach Ed Zink picked up his 800th career victory. He is the first coach in Ohio girls basketball history to reach that mark and the fourth coach in any high school sport in Ohio.

Eaton 52, Graham 39: Eaton went on an 18-9 run in the final quarter to secure the win.

Edgewood 53, Oak Hills 43: Chloe Butler paced Edgewood with 22 points and Callie Hunt hauled in 12 rebounds.

Fairmont 74, West Carrollton 26: Madison Bartley poured in 30 points and Madeline Westbeld tacked on 17 for Fairmont.

Fort Loramie 90, Ansonia 12: Kenzie Hoelscher and Ava Sholtis each chipped in 19 points for unbeaten Fort Loramie and Taylor Ratermann posted a school record for three-point baskets in a season.

Miamisburg 42, Bellbrook 35: ‘Burg pulled away with an 8-2 run in the second quarter then held on late for the win. Anna Long led the way with 23 points.

Riverside 38, Jackson Center 28: The postseason win was the first for Riverside girls hoops in 10 years.

Tri-Village 79, East Dayton Christian 24: Maddie Downing led the way with 18 points, Morgan Hunt added 16 and Lissa Siler 14 for Tri-Village, which improved to 23-1.

Trotwood 49, Bellefontaine 34: Quantaijah Huffman totaled 21 points for Trotwood.


Coldwater 47, Patrick Henry 46: Kate Leichty chipped in 16 points and Riley Rismiller added 10 points with 11 rebounds for Coldwater.

Central Buckeye Conference All-Conference Teams: Sydney Borquin of Jonathan Alder was the Kenton Trail player of the year and Journey Blevins of North Union earned the honor for the Mad River division.

Cross County Conference All-Conference Team: Corina Conley of Franklin Monroe picked up player of the year honors and Abbey Moore of Franklin Monroe was named coach of the year.

Boys Basketball


Emmanuel Christian 55, Carlisle 42: Fred Shropshire and Jason Channels combined for 35 points to pace Emmanuel Christian.

Mechanicsburg 49, Lehman Catholic 46: Kyle Smith scored a career-high 31 points for Mechanicsburg, which held off a Lehman Catholic rally for the win. Luke Frantz and Brendan O’Leary each had 21 points for Lehman.

Springfield Shawnee 60, Greenon 53: Zion Crowe tallied 19 points, Isaac Siemon 17 and Drew Mitch 16 for Shawnee. Clayton Minteer posted 14 points for Greenon.

West Carrollton 79, Bellefontaine 58: Kalen McKinney poured in 38 points to pace West Carrollton.

Cross County Conference All-Conference Team: Cameron Harrison of National Trail was tabbed as the player of the year and Mike Harrison of National Trail was named coach of the year. Zach Woodall joined Harrison on the first team, Tyler Weathington made second team and Colton Toms third team for National Trail.
