The Cincinnati Reds made it clear after the 2017 season that retaining shortstop Zack Cozart was one of the team’s goals.

Ken Rosenthal reported on Twitter on Thursday that Cozart was in talks with several teams, with the Angels showing the most interest. It’s expected he’ll sign with one of those teams after remarks made by team management.

General Manager Dick Williams made it clear yesterday, during an interview on MLB Network during the Winter Meetings Cozart won’t be playing second. Williams said Jose Peraza will take over duties at shortstop. The team’s priority now at the position is to find a backup on days Peraza needs rest, or in case of injury.
