The future is inching closer for the Cleveland Browns.
Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer has been splitting first-team reps with incumbent starter Brock Osweiler, and has even passed him in some drills, reports Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Head coach Hue Jackson hasn’t adjusted the depth chart prior to the Browns’ second preseason game against the Giants. Cody Kessler is virtually eliminated from starting contention, Cabot adds.
Kizer was supposed to be a super raw, developmental project. The combination of his rise and Osweiler’s mediocrity may result in him being thrust into the lineup much sooner than the Browns had planned.
