No Red and Blue Game for Dayton this season

UD Arena won’t be ready in late October when scrimmage is usually played

The University of Dayton sent an email to season-ticket holders Friday to inform them there will not be Red and Blue Game this season because of the construction at UD Arena.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams typically play intrasquad scrimmages in late October — last year it was Oct. 22 — in front of fans. It’s a free event and offers fans a chance to see the incoming freshmen for the first time.

Dayton also announced“due to various commitments, we will not hold the traditional fan engagement opportunity with the men's and women's basketball teams that takes place during the summer.” In the past, UD has hosted a cookout for both teams for select fans.

In place of those events, Dayton will hold a Fan Festival Cookout with the men’s and women’s basketball teams on Oct. 14 before a 1 p.m. football game against Campbell at Welcome Stadium. Players will sign autographs and meet fans. More information on this event will be released soon.

The first phase of the three-year, $72 million renovation project at UD Arena began in May and, as of late July, was on schedule to be complete by the time UD plays an exhibition game against Ohio Dominican on Nov. 4.
