Prep track: Koontz powers host Talawanda girls to another Plank title

OXFORD — Kyra Koontz won four individual events Tuesday and led the Talawanda High School girls track squad to its second straight team championshp in the ninth annual Dale Plank Invitational.

Koontz, a junior, was victorious in the long jump, triple jump, 100-meter hurdles and 100 dash for the host Brave, who totaled 214 points to conquer Badin (119.5), Valley View (99), Edgewood (80.5), Madison (52), Hamilton (51), Twin Valley South (39), Ross (34) and Talawanda B (8).

Koontz set meet records in the long jump (17 feet, 5.25 inches) and triple jump (33 feet, 11 inches). Also breaking or tying meet records were Valley View’s Anna Roach in the 400 (59.65) and Elizabeth Barnett in the pole vault (10 feet), along with Talawanda’s Hannah Lippincott in the 3,200 (11:27.31).

Valley View repeated as the boys team champion with 148 points, followed by Talawanda (118), Edgewood (107), Badin (106), Hamilton (81), Ross (74), Madison (37), Twin Valley South (22) and Talawanda B (5).

The Brave’s Kiefer Bell was the only two-event winner in the boys competition. He ruled the 800 and 1,600 runs, establishing a new meet record in the 1,600 (4:36.12).
