Franklin High School’s girls basketball team captured its first Division II district championship in thrilling fashion Friday night at Mason, outlasting Carroll 53-51 in triple overtime.
Jordan Rogers’ 3-pointer in the final seconds was the difference for the Wildcats (19-6), who got 23 points and nine rebounds from Layne Ferrell.
Emily Newton had 10 points, Brooke Stover scored 8, and Rogers and Skyler Weir chipped in 6 apiece for Franklin, which will meet Southwestern Buckeye League rival Bellbrook in a 6:15 p.m regional semifinal Tuesday at Springfield.
The Golden Eagles (18-8) defeated the Wildcats 66-36 and 52-34 during the regular season. Tippecanoe and Bloom-Carroll will square off in Wednesday’s second regional contest at 8 p.m.
