Ohio State Buckeyes: Shaun Wade changes course

Ohio State is getting another major piece back for the newly-reinstated fall season.

Shaun Wade announced on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Thursday night he intends to play for the Buckeyes, reversing a decision to opt out of the season and enter the 2021 NFL Draft while Big Ten leadership deliberated whether or not fall sports should be played this fall.

“I’m going to come back and be a Buckeye and strive for this national championship like I was back in January,” Wade said.

After the Big Ten announced plans to begin the season Oct. 23-24, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said both Wade and Wyatt Davis, an offensive lineman who also opted out, wanted to play if there were going to be a season this fall.

Davis subsequently announced his intention to return if he is able.

Wade’s return is a major development for an Ohio State defense that would otherwise have an entirely new secondary and also have to replace star pass rusher Chase Young, among others.
