“That was something I was a little worried about,” said Bradberry, whose squad won the team title with 209 points and advanced 11 to the district tournament. “I was interested to see how they would react to such a long layoff. Overall, I think they did a good job of managing the long break and getting things done.”
The Firebirds closed strong, going 8-3 in the finals with 126-pounder Logan Brown claiming their lone title with a fall in 1:08 in the finals.
“Logan has been wrestling great,” Bradberry said. “The big thing we have been talking about is finishing. Going into district a one is better than a two and a three because it puts you in a little better position. We closed out really well.”
Lakota East finished third with 159.5 points and got its lone title from DeAnte Evans at 132. Edgewood was seventh, getting a title from Jaren Rutherford at 120.
Middletown got a title from Anthony Jagel in the Centerville 1 sectional.
Fairfield came on strong at the Hamilton sectional, finishing third with 165.5 points in a tournament won by Mason (276.5 points)
Dillon Leneave (152), Jacob Bria (160) and Julius Crossty (170) all won titles for the Indians, who advanced four to the title match.
Hamilton, which finished 11th, advanced Daniel Ramirez (126) and Rickardo Harris (160).
Lebanon advanced 11 to districts and finished runner-up to Moeller in the Lebanon sectional.
Quinn May (126) and Jared Burton (195) claimed titles for the Warriors.
In Division II, Ross was second in the Batavia sectional and adavnced eight. Tyler Young (152) and Dalton Jones (170) won titles. Talawanda was fourth with Blake Bolton (126) and Dakota Stapleton (132) finishing second.
Monroe continued its strong season with a second-place finish to host Tippecanoe in the Tippecanoe 1 sectional.
Hunter Linebaugh claimed Monroe’s lone title at 182.
Graham ran away with the Tippecanoe 2 sectional, but Fenwick advanced five and finished fourth and Franklin moved on seven and placed fifth.
Madison finished behind Dayton Christian to take second in the Milton-Union Division III sectional.
The Mohawks got titles from Josh Kirby (170) and Nick Svarda (195).
Middletown Christian also advanced its first wrestler to district in five years as Jordan Landsaw finished third at 138.
The top four in each district advances to the state tournament March 12-14 at Ohio State. District tournaments begin Friday and conclude Saturday.
